There are few tragedies as gut-wrenching as an unviable pregnancy, but the anti-abortion laws written by Republican men compound that grief and heartache with humiliating procedures and agonizing waiting periods.
Arizona State Senator Eva Burch recently made headlines around the nation when she bravely addressed the Senate and shared her story of the hoops she was forced to jump through to try to get the reproductive care she needs to terminate an unviable pregnancy.
Burch told the Republicans who wrote those laws that they were “a cruel and uninformed attempt by outside forces to shame and coerce and frighten me into making a different decision other than the one I knew was right for me. There’s no one-size-fits-all script for people seeking abortion care, and the legislature doesn’t have any right to assign one.”
Tell Republicans to repeal their cruel anti-abortion restrictions!
The overturning of Roe v. Wade has unleashed an avalanche of stress, shame, and suffering on those who are already enduring the physical and mental stress that accompanies any pregnancy.
“I’m choosing to talk about why I made this decision because I want us to have meaningful conversations about the reality of how the work that we do in this body impacts people in the real world.” Nobody should have to endure the kind of hardship that Sen. Burch went through — and it’s time that Republicans come to terms with the consequences of their legislation and repeal them.
Repeal anti-abortion laws that humiliate and traumatize!
