Video shows Evelyn getting pulled out of the passenger seat, thrown to the ground, all while saying she is not resisting arrest. The officer handcuffed her and appeared to put a knee on her back as she yelled that she was a citizen. "They were telling them they were U.S. citizens, and they didn't care. It was very scary to see that video," said her mother, Jazmin.
But once the video began going viral, the Trumpian lies came out. In a tweet, the Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin commented on Evelyn's arrest video, saying, "Imagine being so desperate to demonize law enforcement you post a video from a burglary arrest Chicago police made over a year ago. This isn't even ICE."
Fire the DHS official who keeps inventing fake stories smearing ICE's victims!
A cursory examination of the videos reveal that the squad car in the video says “Hoffman Estates” and not Chicago PD, which does not have jurisdiction in the suburb. The arresting goon is wearing body armor with “ERO—Enforcement and Removal Operations” branding on it, which is an ICE department. Hoffman Estates PD confirms that ICE was in the area and that their squad car was responding to a different incident.
SHE’S LYING.
This isn’t even the first time this woman has told completely fabricated lies to smear one of ICE’s victims. McLaughlin also smeared pregnant woman Iris Dayana Monterroso-Lemus as a “wanted killer” after she was denied medical care and treated so harshly in ICE detention that her baby miscarried and died.
Tricia McLaughlin needs to be fired IMMEDIATELY. We cannot allow government officials to concoct fictional accusations in order to excuse or justify their appalling violations of our rights and their wanton brutality.
