School sports for ALL students, including trans youth!

In 2022, we’ve already see a flood of egregious anti-trans bills, including dozens that would ban transgender children from participating in sports that match their gender. 

Supporters of these attacks on trans students argue that they are crusaders for fairness in women’s sports, but nothing could be further from the truth. States with trans-inclusive policies actually saw no decline in girls’ participation in sports, or any trend of trans girls dominating cisgender girls – and transgender boys are looped into some of these laws with little explanation. 

Anti-transgender athlete bills promote harmful gender stereotypes and norms that hurt all children.

Sports are a key part of a young person’s development, teaching cooperation, instilling confidence, and building bonds among peers. Sports are also proven to reduce depression and suicidality among transgender youth.

When transgender youth are systematically excluded from sport, they are denied not only an essential component of their physical, mental, and emotional well-being, but also access to the social support therein. These vulnerable students should be supported, not subjected to further discrimination.
